FirstSQL® Releases FirstSQL/J ProLite with Free Development License
Allowing Free Development For Non-commercial Use
El Cerrito, Calif. - February 20, 2003 - FFE Software, Inc., a developer of advanced high performance 100% Java Object-relational SQL embedded database technology announced today general availability of FirstSQL/J ProLite. With licensing similar to the so-called free databases, the ProLite version is provided for free for use in non-commercial, non-distributed applications. Commercial distribution of FirstSQL-based applications requires a FirstSQL/J Professional or Enterprise Server license. In-memory, Replication, and Active/Standby features are only provided in Professional and Enterprise Server Editions.
The features and functionality of ProLite are set at the level of the FirstSQL/J Professional v1.25, providing single connection version that is perfect for stand-alone embedded systems. Included are GUI and command line interactive SQL and data Import/Export utilities. Technical support is free through the FirstSQL Mail-list and customer community.
FirstSQL/J ProLite not only brings object persistence and convenient manipulation of objects to object-oriented applications; it delivers the power of objects integrated with a relational database and SQL92. Java, as the basis for the object capabilities, ensures the widest availability of services and flexibility for database application developers.
Designed for use in any type of embedded system or mobile device application, FirstSQL/J ProLite provides a scalable, high performance multi-threaded database engine with reliable transaction processing on any platform supporting a JDK 1.1, or greater, Java Virtual Machine. The full database engine foot print is <600k but dynamically links in classes so actual foot print will depend on the application requirements. The FirstSQL/J component model allows functionality to be removed to create a smaller footprint.
